For Chris, the most Puckish person I know and who I am proud to call my friend.
A Hobgoblin is mischevous from birth
We never mean to harm, but to disrupt,
To muddle up the stasis of the Earth
That others may solve problems they gave up.
A Hobgoblin defies all expectations
Of ugliness and meanness, seeming fair
Creating mirth and joyful celebrations
Whatever else may linger here and there.
A Hobgoblin lives moments day to day
And unintended consequences show.
We own our actions, learn, then seek a way
To make amends, if others will allow.
A Hobgoblin loves fools, and gives them ears
If jackasses they are, and such ears fit
Remembering that when enchantment clears
We’re still fools too – at least a little bit.
A Hobgoblin forgives. One silly act
Does not a person’s whole or part define.
We offer peace, if others will retract;
To err is human; to forgive divine.
